Chairman’s Piece - April 2012

I have been looking back at last year and am very proud to say it was a great success. Thanks to all the Committee and members for their contribution to this. Let’s hope the coming year is the same for WAGS and all our gardening endeavours. Fingers crossed for rain to avoid a drought situation.
Our AGM in February was poorly attended due to the weather, so we will be making some changes for 2013 to hopefully increase attendance. For more information on the changes do read the article on page 8.
As you all know, WAGS provides some great catering at its events during the year. To help with the catering we are looking to set up a team of people to spread the work rather than having one Catering Officer. So if you can spare an hour or two over the year to help with shopping, food preparation, setting up the food, or clearing up, please do contact our Secretary Samantha at vauxhall52@sky.com.
You will see elsewhere in this newsletter that Toni is arranging a trip to Wisley on 10 June. Please do save the date, or better still get your name on her list. It’s a great opportunity to see one of the RHS gardens and to make some new friends.
Unfortunately Toni will be stepping down as Trips Organiser after June, so if anyone would like to take this role on please contact Toni for more information.
I am very pleased to say that Toni will be staying on the WAGS Committee and will be taking on the role of Assistant Show Secretary. Thanks Toni, I am sure Sandra will welcome the help!
Remember, if you haven’t yet bought your seed potatoes, they are currently on sale at the store together with the onion and shallot sets.
Happy Gardening!
Colin Timmins
